Soluble Support for ABS/ASA/PC

Dissolves in d-limonene, ideal as support for ABS, ASA, or PC without harming the part.

Versatile Post-Processing

HIPS can be easily sanded, painted, glued, or machined for finished parts or prototypes.

Good Impact Resistance

As “High Impact Polystyrene,” it offers toughness beyond standard polystyrene, making parts more durable under stress.

Low Water Absorption

It resists moisture uptake, which helps maintain dimensional accuracy and print consistency.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is INTAMSYS HIPS used for?

It’s a High Impact Polystyrene filament commonly used as a breakaway support for ABS, ASA, and PC, or as a standalone material for impact-resistant parts.

How are supports with HIPS removed?

Supports can be manually broken away, and optionally dissolved in d-limonene for cleaner removal, especially when paired with ABS/PC.

What are the printing parameters for HIPS as support?

Typical nozzle temps are 220–250 °C when used as support with ABS/ASA/PC.

What material properties does HIPS offer?

It has good impact resistance, low water absorption, and decent chemical resistance.

How should HIPS be stored and handled?

Store in a cool, dry place, ideally sealed with desiccant to avoid moisture uptake. Use ventilation when printing, as heated HIPS may emit styrene vapors.
