FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is PA12-CF by INTAMSYS?

PA12-CF is a nylon 12 filament reinforced with about 15% chopped carbon fiber. It combines the toughness of nylon with higher stiffness and reduced moisture absorption compared to PA6-based nylons.

What are the mechanical and thermal properties of PA12-CF?

This material offers a tensile strength of around 70 MPa, a Young’s modulus close to 3,750 MPa, and a heat deflection temperature of roughly 105 °C at 1.8 MPa. Its glass transition temperature is about 108 °C and it melts around 165 °C.

What are the recommended printing conditions for PA12-CF?

PA12-CF prints best with a nozzle temperature between 260 and 300 °C, a heated bed, and an enclosed chamber to reduce warping. Because of the abrasive carbon fiber, a hardened or wear-resistant nozzle is recommended.

What are common challenges when printing PA12-CF?

Like other nylons, PA12-CF is moisture sensitive, so the filament should be kept dry to avoid surface defects. In addition, the carbon fibers make it abrasive, which means standard brass nozzles will wear out quickly if not replaced with hardened options.

What are typical applications for PA12-CF?

This filament is widely used for functional end-use parts, tooling, fixtures, and prototypes that require high strength, stiffness, and resistance to heat and chemicals. It is popular in automotive, industrial, and engineering applications.
