FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the Formlabs Form 4?

The Form 4 is the next-generation desktop SLA 3D printer from Formlabs, using Low Force Displayâ„¢ (LFD) technology for ultra-fast, high-resolution resin printing with industrial-grade accuracy.

How fast is the Form 4 compared to previous models?

Form 4 can print most parts in under 20 minutes—up to 4x faster than the Form 3—thanks to its new LFD print engine and advanced light processing system.

What materials are compatible with the Form 4?

Form 4 supports a wide range of Formlabs resins, including general-purpose, engineering, medical, and dental materials. It is backward-compatible with many existing Form 3 resins (though not all), and some resins require updates to be fully optimized for Form 4.

What’s the difference between the Form 4 and Form 4B?

The Form 4B includes expanded compatibility with biocompatible and sterilizable resins used in medical and dental applications, while the standard Form 4 is intended for engineering and product design use.

Does the Form 4 require post-processing?

Yes. Like other SLA printers, the Form 4 requires post-processing steps, including washing and curing. Formlabs recommends using the Form Wash and Form Cure stations for best results.

Is the Form 4 easy to use for beginners?

Absolutely. The Form 4 features an intuitive touchscreen interface, automated resin handling, smart sensors, and simple software integration—making it accessible even to first-time users.

What’s the build volume of the Form 4?

The Form 4 offers a build volume of 200 × 125 × 210 mm (7.9 × 4.9 × 8.3 in)—perfect for both small detailed parts and larger functional prototypes.
